Waterloo, Ontario, 2008 - DALSA Corporation (TSX:DSA), an international leader in high performance digital imaging and semiconductors, is pleased to announce that Dr. Savvas Chamberlain, DALSA's founder, CTO and Chairman, has been made a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada.
The award, presented at the EIC's Annual Awards Gala in Ottawa on March 7, 2009, recognizes "exceptional contributions...excellence in engineering and service to the profession and society."
During his 30-year career as a professor at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Chamberlain made many important contributions and published more than 100 papers in refereed scientific journals and conference proceedings. He was integral to building a world-class electrical engineering program and through his efforts and leadership, the University's first microelectronics laboratory was established.
Dr. Chamberlain's research into CMOS and CCD image sensors earned him 22 patents in semiconductor design and fabrication, and his entrepreneurial spirit helped him turn his research into a robust business delivering world-leading performance in digital imaging and specialized semiconductor fabrication. Founded in 1980, in 2008 DALSA employed almost 1000 people and recorded over $200 million in revenue.
Dr. Chamberlain is active in many local charities, and has served on many professional committees. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the IEEE, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo, and a Premier's Catalyst Award winner for Lifetime Achievement in Innovation.
