Eric Carey, an R&D director for Teledyne DALSA and chairman for the AIA’s GigE Vision Committee A, was featured in “Vision standard clearly supports 10 GigE,” a recent article in Control Engineering Europe outlining some of the advances in version 2.0 of the GigE Vision interface standard, planned for release later this year.
The current version (1.2) was released in January 2010, allowing the same software to control not only cameras but also non-streamable devices such as I/O boxes. Version 2.0 brings improvements in speed, more power over Ethernet (POE) support, link aggregation to allow multiple Ethernet cables from one device, multi-type sensors, and support for several industry-standard image compression algorithms.
